Opus floors are very unique as their staining process is not traditional. They are not stained at all and instead go through a fuming or “smoked” process where the wood is exposed to ammonia. The ammonia causes the wood to react with the natural tannins and bring out new color variations, highlighting the woods natural grain. This process gives each tree a unique color and makes each hardwood floor slightly varied.
